Afghanistan is completely landlocked. Which means they only have freshwater in Afghanistan and can not depend on the sea for any resources.The country has a very diverse amount of landforms. The country is split into three separate parts the Central Highlands, Northern Plains and the Southwestern Plateau.

Central Highlands

Mountains cover a lot of Afghanistan. One of the biggest ranges is the Hindu Kush which is located in the Central Highlands and is a continuation of the Himalayas. The highlands are made up of high mountains and deep narrow valleys. These physical features have helped the country defend itself because it is a hard region to maneuver.

Northern Plains

North of the Central Highland are the Northern Plains. They are the countries richest place for agriculture. For that reason the population is very high in that area. This area also has many mineral deposits and is rich in natural gas.

Southern Plateau

 South of the Central Highland is the Southern Plateau. The Registan Desert covers most of this area. This area has very infertile soil so it is not well suited for farming.
